How do you climb a mountain? One step at a time

This summer I went backpacking with some friends. In Colorado we hiked Mount Zirkel Loop Trail and disperse camped.  Mount Bierstadt, my first 14’R came several days later. After returning to Virginia, my good friend Mary and I day hiked Old Rag Mountain Loop plus several extra miles just for fun!  I ate snow from a mountain top, swam and splashed in icy cold waters, crawled in and out of a small tent, giggled my way across logs and moving waters, and ate a lot of hummus. It was a blast!! I felt empowered, inspired and encouraged that my age was not defining who I am. I attribute my fluid mobility to my daily personal movement practice.

My daily personal practice is sustainable. I can do it anywhere any time and I can practice it as a flow or as a individual or singular movements. I do not put off my practice, it is the one thing I do completely for myself. It is a sacred time and I love it.

I share these experiences because I want to inspire others to cultivate a personal somatics and yoga practice that offers differential whole-body movements so no matter what your “mountains” are, you are moving forward one step and one breath at a time to live the life you desire and the life you deserve.
